Getting started in video production is difficult at best, impossible at worst. My best advice to graduating college students, get a job at Starbucks or another company with flexible hours, decent pay and medical benefits. Better to have a job to pay the bills while you hone your craft.
Once you decide to become a freelancer, you must learn to think like a business owner and the best way to do that is to collaborate with other people in your industry. Adobe has been recently been going from state to state, hitting a lot of large cities and gathering creatives for an event they call Creative Jam. We just had our first Creative Jam in Honolulu and it was awesome. We got to see some of Hawaii’s best designers and producers solve problems live and hear the stories of Hawaii’s top tier talent.
Lastly, I’M GOING TO VEGAS, BABY! April is here and that means it’s time for NAB’s tech conference. The biggest vendors from around the world will line the floors of the Las Vegas convention center with all their last gear and tech If you can’t make it, let me be your eyes and ears on the floor.
